In the furniture manufacturing and decoration industries, edge banding is a crucial material that enhances product aesthetics and durability. Its storage method directly impacts its performance and lifespan. Proper storage methods not only prevent edge banding from deformation, moisture, and aging, but also ensure its stable performance during production. This article will explain key storage tips for edge banding to help industry practitioners optimize material management.

1. Ambient Temperature and Humidity Control

Edge banding is typically made of plastic materials such as PVC, ABS, or PP, and is sensitive to ambient temperature and humidity. Ideally, the storage temperature should be between 15°C and 25°C, with a relative humidity range of 40% to 60%. Excessively high or low temperatures can cause edge banding to become brittle or soften, while excessively high humidity can cause moisture absorption, deformation, or mildew. Therefore, the storage environment should be equipped with temperature and humidity control equipment to avoid extreme weather conditions.

2. Avoid Direct Sunlight and UV Exposure

Prolonged exposure to sunlight or strong UV rays can cause edge banding to discolor, age, or even become brittle. It is recommended that edge banding be stored in a cool, well-ventilated room, away from windows or direct light sources. If stacking is necessary in a warehouse, use blackout curtains or moisture-proof cartons to protect the material from UV rays.

3. Moisture and Dust Prevention Measures

Moisture or dust adsorbed on the edge banding surface may affect subsequent bonding and appearance quality. Ensure packaging is tightly sealed during storage. Unused edge banding should be kept in its original packaging and protected from direct exposure to air. For unpacked edge banding, it is recommended to rewrap it in moisture-proof bags or plastic wrap and inspect it regularly for signs of moisture.

4. Proper Stacking and First-in-First-out Principle

Edge banding should be stacked according to the "lightest on top, heavier on bottom" principle to avoid deformation caused by heavy objects. It is also recommended to sort materials by production batch or arrival date, prioritizing older materials to ensure they are used within their shelf life. Furthermore, stacking should be limited to avoid damage to the bottom edge banding due to excessive pressure.

Through scientific storage management, companies can effectively extend the service life of edge banding, reduce material waste, and improve production efficiency. Mastering the correct storage method is a key step in ensuring product quality and reducing costs.
